As I write this, it’s the day after two deadly bomb attacks hit Kabul killing at least 90 people – including US troops and Afghan families desperate to flee what is a harrowing humanitarian crisis. 

The situation in Afghanistan is fast-moving, and like MPs all across the country I have been doing everything I can to help constituents desperately worried about the safety of family members whose lives are at risk due to the Taliban takeover. COVID-19: MOVING BEYOND LEVEL 0

Scotland’s First Minister has confirmed that West Dunbartonshire will join the rest of Scotland in emerging from almost all Covid-19 restrictions on Monday 9th August 2021.

MoD FAILING TO PROTECT WOMEN IN THE ARMED FORCES, SAYS WEST DUNBARTONSHIRE’S MP

West Dunbartonshire’s MP Martin Docherty-Hughes has called on the UK government to do more to protect women serving in the armed forces following a damning report published by the parliamentary Defence Select Committee.

Local MP Martin – who is Scotland’s only representative on the Defence Select Committee – has urged the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to act quickly over concerns that two-thirds of female personnel have suffered from bullying, harassment, and discrimination during their military careers. Martin Docherty-Hughes MP has welcomed a major step forward for thousands of women in West Dunbartonshire seeking justice over UK government changes to their state pensions.  

A ruling this week by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman found that the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) failed to adequately inform 1950s-born women that their state pension age would be increasing. MARTIN BACKS CALLS FOR FURLOUGH EXTENSION TO PROTECT AVIATION, TRAVEL, AND TOURISM JOBS

West Dunbartonshire’s MP Martin Docherty-Hughes has backed calls from the All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Future of Aviation for the UK government to extend the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme until March 2022 to protect jobs in the aviation, travel, and tourism sectors.
