SNP MP Martin Docherty-Hughes has praised the work of Lomond & Argyll Advocacy Service – a Dumbarton-based charity which offers independent advocacy to vulnerable residents across West Dunbartonshire.

During a visit to Lomond & Argyll Advocacy Service’s Dumbarton headquarters, the MP for West Dunbartonshire met with staff and volunteers at the charity to discuss the importance of independent advocacy in empowering some the most disadvantaged people in our communities.

Lomond & Argyll Advocacy Service, which also operates in Argyll & Bute, offers independent, free and confidential advocacy services primarily to older people and adults with learning disabilities or mental health difficulties.

Martin Docherty-Hughes MP said:

“I’m very pleased to support the work undertaken by Lomond & Argyll Advocacy Service which offers invaluable assistance to some of the most and vulnerable and isolated people in our communities. I’d like to thank the staff and volunteers in Dumbarton for taking the time to meet with me and allowing me to see first-hand the important work they do to safeguard the rights of the elderly and people affected by learning disabilities and mental health issues.

“Giving a voice to the disadvantaged and empowering people to be heard plays a vital role in the delivery of a fairer society. I’d encourage anyone in West Dunbartonshire needing independent advocacy support to get in touch with the team at Lomond & Argyll Advocacy Service on 0845 602 3292.”

Scott Rorison, Manager of Lomond & Argyll Advocacy Service, said:

“We very much welcome Martin Docherty-Hughes’ support for the important work that the Advocacy Service carries out in his constituency. Independent advocacy is a crucial element in social justice, helping to ensure that everyone matters and everyone is heard, including those who face particular difficulties in making their views known.

“We look forward to working with Martin and his team in the future to make sure that people have the support they need to challenge decisions, uphold their rights and play as full a part as possible in the discussions and decisions which affect their lives.”
