SNP MP Martin Docherty-Hughes has welcomed the announcement that Chivas Brothers has been granted approval for a £40 million extension of its bottling plant at Kilmalid in Dumbarton.
West Dunbartonshire planning authority has given the green light for the multi-million pound investment plans which will see new state-of-the-art facilities created at the firm’s premises in the Vale of Leven Industrial Estate.
Premium whisky and gin producer Chivas Brothers, owned by drinks company Pernod Ricard, aims to begin work immediately on its new purpose-built bottling plant which is expected to be completed by the end of 2019.

“The decision taken by West Dunbartonshire’s planning authority to approve Chivas Brothers’ £40m expansion plans for its Kilmalid plants is great news for the area.
“Chivas Brothers is a long-established employer in West Dunbartonshire and this multi-million pound investment represents a boost to the local economy which I hope will secure further skilled employed opportunities.
“It sends a clear message that West Dunbartonshire is open for business and well placed to attract further investment from employers looking to expand and grow their operations.
“Dumbarton’s whisky industry has a proud history and continues to play an important part in the success of Scotland’s food and drink industry.”
