Martin Docherty-Hughes, SNP MP for West Dunbartonshire, has welcomed the success of local community projects which have secured over half a million pounds of funding from Big Lottery Scotland.

Two West Dunbartonshire based charities will benefit from a cash injection totalling £533,726 after applying for National Lottery funding.

Dumbarton Area Council on Alcohol (DACA) has been awarded £389,172 to introduce a programme of health and wellbeing activities for people affected by alcohol misuse.

Clydebank-based Community Links Scotland has received £144,554 to support its ‘Volunteer in Progress Programme’ which provides people with training and volunteering activities. The project aims to engage with people locally who do not traditionally engage with community services and learning opportunities.

Martin Docherty-Hughes MP said:

“It’s great news that these local community projects have been successful in securing over half a million pounds of funding from Big Lottery Scotland.

“Both DACA and Community Links Scotland undertake important work in our communities, and these awards are testament to the dedication of all the staff and volunteers involved.

“In West Dunbartonshire we’re home to many fantastic charities and voluntary organisations. Big Lottery Scotland offers a range of funding opportunities to put worthwhile community projects into action – I would encourage any interested groups to get in touch to find out what support is available.”

Maureen McGinn, Chair, Big Lottery Fund Scotland, said:

“National Lottery players are helping make a real impact across Scotland with this latest funding package of £2.9 million.

“Through a range of activities, people who feel isolated or alone will be able to find their voice, which will also give them the confidence and self-belief to share their experiences with others. And, for some, it might represent the first step in a journey which will help re-connect them to family, friends and the wider community.”
