West Dunbartonshire’s MP Martin Docherty-Hughes has handed over a donation of more than £1,000 to local charity The Leamy Foundation following the success of his annual school Christmas card competition.

The local MP visited West Dunbartonshire-based charity The Leamy Foundation at Bonhill Community Centre to see first-hand how the funds raised will benefit the community.
Volunteers at the local charity will put the donation of £1,028 towards supporting their work to provide accessible community gardening activities and enhance outdoor green spaces in West Dunbartonshire.

Martin Docherty-Hughes MP thanked all the pupils who took part in his annual Christmas card design competition which was won by P7 pupil Kerrie Hoben of Aitkenbar Primary.

The charity donation was made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship and support of local businesses based in West Dunbartonshire.

The sponsors of the competition were: Clydebank Co-operative, The Loch Lomond Group, Terasaki, Sunflower Private Nursery, Auchentoshan Distillery, Campbell & Kennedy and JJR Print & Design.

Martin Docherty-Hughes MP said:

“It was great to catch-up with the team at The Leamy Foundation and see first-hand how the funds raised by my annual Christmas card contest will be put to good use.

“A huge thank you goes to all of the pupils in schools across West Dunbartonshire who took part, as well as the generous support of local businesses who provided sponsorship for the competition.

“Their support is greatly appreciated and, as always, goes towards helping good causes across Clydebank, Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven.

“The theme for the winning designs was ‘joy’, which seems apt given the important work The Leamy Foundation does to help disadvantaged young people in the area through community gardening and education.

“This is a small local charity whose volunteers are making a big difference in our communities; promoting positive mental health and enhancing outdoor green spaces.

“I am delighted to support The Leamy Foundation and look forward to the benefits their work will bring to our communities now and in the future.”
