Local MP Martin Docherty-Hughes has joined Police Scotland officers out on patrol to see first-hand what goes in to keeping the communities of West Dunbartonshire safe.

The Member of Parliament, who represents Clydebank, Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven, spent the afternoon on the beat with L Division officers as part of the Police Scotland ‘Give a Day to Policing’ initiative.

During a visit to Clydebank Police Station, Martin was given a behind the scenes look at the CCTV control centre to discuss how technology is utilised to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour.

Martin then accompanied community police officers PC Chris Coyne and PC John Pryde on a vehicle patrol around West Dunbartonshire to gain an insight into the experiences and challenges of local policing.

Martin Docherty-Hughes MP said:

“It was very useful to join local officers out on patrol and see first-hand the important work they do across Clydebank, Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven.

“Recorded crime is at historically low levels, but it’s clear that the nature of criminal activity is changing and our police are working hard to meet these new challenges.

“Technology is becoming increasingly important in policing and it was interesting to get a behind the scenes look at how CCTV and digital tech is being utilised to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour.

“I was impressed by the professionalism and dedication demonstrated by all the L Division officers I met with – both in the police control room and out on the beat.

“I’m grateful to PC Chris Coyne and PC John Pryde for giving me the opportunity to accompany them on patrol and sharing their insights and experience of keeping our communities safe.”
