West Dunbartonshire’s MP has urged residents to get behind 3 local parks nominated as best in the country; with Dalmuir Park, Balloch Country Park and Levengrove Park all in the running to be crowned the UK’s favourite park 2022.

Local MP Martin Docherty-Hughes has praised all 3 parks as much-loved public spaces in West Dunbartonshire, and is urging residents to show their support during ‘Love Parks Week’ (29th July to 5th August) by casting their votes online via the Fields in Trust charity’s website.

The UK’s Best Park Award gives the public the opportunity to vote for their favourite local green space and Levengrove Park, Balloch Country Park, and Dalmuir Park are amongst 45 parks across Scotland to be put forward.

The parks with the most votes in each of Scotland, Wales, England and Northern Ireland will be named National Favourites and the overall winner the UK’s Favourite Park 2022.

Voting is now open at www.fieldsintrust.org/favourite-parks and will close at 12pm on Thursday 18th August 2022

Commenting, Martin Docherty-Hughes MP said:

“I’m delighted that 3 of West Dunbartonshire’s brilliant parks are up for national awards and being recognised as amongst the best in the country.

“Dalmuir Park, Balloch Country Park and Levengrove Park are much-loved public spaces and enjoyed by local people and visitors of all ages.

“In the run up to ‘Love Parks Week’ (29th July to 5th August), I’d urge residents to show support for West Dunbartonshire’s wonderful parks by voting for their favourite online via the Fields in Trust charity’s website.”

Fields in Trust Chief Executive Helen Griffiths said:

“Our nation’s parks have been so important during the pandemic, and it is vital that we celebrate them to help ensure they are protected for future generations.

“Our children and grandchildren deserve to have the same access to green space that we do, this is a significant moment to change the way we think about the contribution local green spaces make to our health, our wellbeing, our environment, and ultimately our futures.”

Votes can be cast online up to 18th August via the Fields in Trust website at: www.fieldsintrust.org/favourite-parks
