PLASTIC WASTE

Under the SNP, Scotland is helping to lead the way in action on plastics and on deposit return.

Scotland leads the way on deposit return and was the first part of the UK to commit to a deposit return scheme for drinks containers.

The Scottish Government recognises the importance of leading by example and has been taking measures to reduce use of plastics and packaging in the Parliament.

The SNP remains concerned about how the use of plastic packaging will be regulated after the UK’s departure from the EU. The UK Government must give clear assurances there will be no reduction in standards and targets or devolve appropriate powers to the Scottish Parliament.
