Equality & Human Rights Commission

The EHRC is an important body which contributes hugely towards eliminating discrimination, reducing inequality, protecting and promoting human rights, and ensuring that everyone has a fair chance to participate in society.

My SNP colleagues and I, both in the Scottish Government and at Westminster, were elected on manifestos which promised to promote equality and protect human rights. In 2014, the SNP Scottish Government produced only the third cabinet in the developed world to be gender-balanced. We have also pledged to do all we can to stop the Tory UK Government plans for scrapping the Human Rights Act.

The work of the EHRC has supported the evidence base for the Scottish Government to legislate for better maternity rights, more support for carers, and to introduce new funds to help disabled people run for elected office. It is deeply important that the EHRC is funded adequately to be able to continue its work.
