Future of Maternity Services at the Vale of Leven Hospital

“The future of maternity services at the Vale of Leven Hospital is safe. The First Minister has stated that the Scottish Government, “will not approve proposals that run counter to the vision for the Vale”.

This reiterates the position as stated by the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing during the Holyrood Election Campaign and it is extremely disappointing that our MSP continues to try and spin draft Health Board discussion documents as if they represent policy.

The Health Board is populated by Labour Councillors, including West Dunbartonshire Council’s Social Work and Health Spokesperson, Cllr Gail Casey. These Councillors can act to extinguish these ideas at the Health Board’s August meeting before they become formal consultation proposals. It’s a disgrace that they allow the Health Board to waste resources coming up with such draft documents with proposals that the Scottish Government have publicly stated they will not approve.

It’s a waste of public money and officer time and only serves to needlessly worry people. I hope that Jackie Baillie will join me in calling on the Councillors who sit on the Health Board to do their job and instruct the director to issue a statement retracting these ridiculous plans immediately.”
