Martin Docherty, SNP MP for West Dunbartonshire, has welcomed the success of Faifley Art Group in securing a funding award from Creative Scotland through the Big Lottery Fund Scotland.
Faifley Art Group, a Clydebank-based group of leisure artists, has been awarded £2,255 through the Big Lottery’s Awards for All fund which aims to help improve local communities and the lives of people most in need.
The funding will allow the group, which meets on Wednesday mornings at Skypoint, to further develop their art skills through professional tutorials at the Gallery of Modern Art. It will also help to support a public art exhibition in Clydebank which includes children’s artwork from primary schools in Faifley, Duntocher and Hardgate.
Commenting, Martin Docherty MP said:
“I am absolutely delighted for Faifley Art Group in securing this funding which is a recognition of the valuable contribution its volunteers make to our local communities in Faifley, Duntocher and Hardgate.
“For almost 30 years Faifley Art Group has offered a welcoming place to go for people looking to learn new skills and meet new people – helping reduce social isolation and inspiring people of all ages and abilities.
“The group’s annual art competition is a particular highlight for local primary schools and I look forward to it continuing to inspire our budding artists of the future.
“Big Lottery Scotland offers a range of funding opportunities for community, arts and sports projects and I would encourage any interested groups in West Dunbartonshire to get in touch to see what support is available.”
An Awards for All spokesperson said:
“This is National Lottery money making a real impact in communities across Scotland. The groups receiving funding today showcases the range of projects that can be funded through this programme and the difference that the smallest amounts of money can make.”
