Martin Docherty MP has joined forces with West Dunbartonshire CVS, community groups and local volunteers to promote community based volunteering throughout the year 2016.
The Your Year to Volunteer campaign hopes to encourage more people in the area to volunteer within their community with the hope to see an increase in community involvement throughout 2016.
Every year, more than 38% of adults across West Dunbartonshire volunteer, donating more than 242, 928 hours to their communities each year. It has been estimated that the economic value of this activity is worth in excess of £22 million to the local economy. Services and initiatives that are vital to so many local people many of which simply wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for volunteers.
West Dunbartonshire CVS, Chief Executive Selina Ross said,
“We want to see 2016 as the year we put community volunteering in West Dunbartonshire clearly on the map. Everyday people throughout the area make the lives of themselves and others better by contributing their time, skills and care in a wide variety of ways. We hope in 2016 even more will take the time to get involved and make it their Year to Volunteer”
Martin Docherty MP, one of the first to support the campaign said,
“I’m very proud to be able to say that West Dunbartonshire has such a high rate of adult volunteering. Community Groups and Local Charities are critical to the wellbeing of a great many vulnerable people in our communities and I hope that we can make 2016 a record year for volunteering.”
