Statement: President-Elect Trump

“Nobody can predict the full impact of the Presidential election just as few predicted a Trump win, but I am concerned about the international economic situation; the US Dollar has a huge impact on other financial markets, and fluctuations will affect small local businesses as much as multinational corporations.

“What we can say with certainty is that come January, the so called leaders of the free world will be the most narcissistic and intolerant to occupy the White House.

“German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s statement was apt and I echo her sentiments. Scotland’s bond with the United States of America is thick as blood, bound by common values of democracy, freedom, respect for the rule of law and the dignity of each and every person, regardless of their origin, skin color, creed, gender, sexual orientation, or political views. It is based on these values that President –elect Trump must govern the United States and conduct his international relations.

“The USA’s status in the world means that all responsible nations must work with them as we strive for economic and social well-being, work to develop joint climate policy, pursue the fight against terrorism, poverty, hunger, and disease, as well as protecting peace and freedom in the world.

“Scotland will work with the newly incoming American Government to ensure that these common threads of modern democracy, for which so many have given their lives, are retained and strengthened.”
