UNIVERSAL CREDIT ROLL-OUT

Categories: Campaign Emails, Latest Issues

Delaying the roll-out of Universal Credit (UC) further does nothing but kick the misery down the road, and won’t help those currently suffering under UC – the Tories need to stop the roll-out immediately.

The evidence from charities, stakeholders and our own constituents is overwhelming – the roll-out of Universal Credit is pushing people into crisis due to waiting times and baked-in cuts.

The failings of Universal Credit are part of an appalling tapestry of social security cuts that are inflicting pain on disadvantaged people – and are being fed into Universal Credit. We are calling on the UK Government to get their head out of the sand, stop the roll-out immediately and make the necessary changes to Universal Credit so it is fit for purpose.

It is clear that the Scottish Government’s flexibilities are moving Universal Credit in a more positive direction in Scotland, giving people more control over their income – but it is only with fully devolved powers and funding that we can fix the Tory’s mess.

We are calling on the UK Government to get their head out of the sand, stop the roll-out immediately and make the necessary changes to Universal Credit so it is fit for purpose. We want to work with Labour and MPs on the Government backbenches to call on the Chancellor to make real investment in Universal Credit.
