BREXIT: SECOND REFERENDUM

In October last year, the SNP conference voted for a motion which opposed a “blindfold Brexit” and confirmed support for a second referendum. In the Commons, the SNP have consistently voted for a second EU referendum to take place.

The Scottish Government have noted the damage that a no-deal Brexit will do to jobs and living standards in Scotland. Scotland’s First Minister has repeated her call to the UK Government to immediately rule out the possibility of leaving the European Union without a deal.

Every SNP MP is committed to protecting Scotland’s interests, which we believe are best served as a member of the European Union. As such, we remain committed to calling for an extension to Article 50 and a second referendum on EU membership which offers the chance for voters to make an informed decision about their future.

However, while the UK stands on the brink of a Brexit disaster, the Tories – like Labour – are consumed by internal squabbles and continue to put the interests of their parties before those of the country. Westminster is failing Scotland.

The people of Scotland did not vote for Brexit and we must not be dragged out of the EU against our will. If Westminster is unwilling to protect our interests, Scotland must find a way to save itself from this crisis. Scotland’s future must be in Scotland’s hands.
