The SNP recognises concerns about the antisocial use of fireworks, including the effect on animals.
The Scottish Government took action through the Fireworks (Scotland) Regulations 2004 to restrict when fireworks can be set off.
The Scottish Government has put in place restrictions so that for most of the year fireworks cannot be used after 11 pm. It is also an offence to set off fireworks in a public place.
When used sensibly and with consideration for others, fireworks are a very popular form of entertainment for the vast majority of the population. Any proposals for further restrictions on use would need careful consideration.
UK Government is responsible for sale of fireworks and there are no plans currently to consider legislative change.
The UK’s Office for Product Safety and Standards are reviewing the guidance materials available to consumers on the safe and responsible use of fireworks.
