Martin Docherty-Hughes MP has announced the winner of West Dunbartonshire’s parliamentary Christmas card design competition.
The 2017 winner is Aila Muir of Bonhill Primary whose winning design was picked from hundreds of entries from local schools across West Dunbartonshire.
Primary 6 pupil Alia joined runners-up Carla Currie (Aitkenbar Primary P2) and Alyssa Glass (St Mary’s Primary P3) at a prize giving ceremony at the MP for West Dunbartonshire’s local parliamentary office.
Thanks to generous sponsorship provided by local businesses the pupils have helped to raise over £1,000 for local good causes. All proceeds raised are going to support the Vale of Leven Autism & Asperger’s Forum and Kilpatrick School.
Martin-Docherty-Hughes MP praised all the pupils who took part in this year’s fund raiser and thanked local businesses for their generous support.
The sponsors of the competition are: Clydebank Co-operative, The Loch Lomond Group, Campbell & Kennedy, Auchentoshan Distillery, Terasaki, Chivas Brothers Ltd and JJR Print.
Martin Docherty-Hughes MP said:
“I’m delighted that this year’s Christmas card design competition has raised over £1,000 for Vale of Leven Autism & Asperger’s Forum and Kilpatrick School – two fantastic good causes doing important work in our communities.
“I never fail to be impressed by the creatively and talents of our pupils in West Dunbartonshire. The theme for this year’s competition was ‘friendship’ and we received hundreds of excellent designs from all the local primary schools taking part.
“It was a tough job deciding the winners, but Aila, Carla and Alyssa are clearly very talented budding artists. I was delighted to meet with them to announce the winners and present the pupils with their well-deserved prizes.
“Aila’s fantastic winning design has been printed as my official parliamentary Christmas card for 2017 and will be sent out to over 250 local organisations, businesses and elected representatives.
“All pupils who took part did a great job representing West Dunbartonshire and should be very proud of their efforts in raising money for these good causes.
“I’d also like to thank all the local businesses who sponsored this year’s competition for their generosity and support.”
