West Dunbartonshire’s MP Martin Docherty-Hughes has confirmed his support for thousands of women across Clydebank, Dumbarton and the Vale fighting for compensation for their state pensions.

Local SNP MP Docherty-Hughes met with West Dunbartonshire’s WASPI (Women Against State Pension Injustice) campaigners to sign a pledge calling on the UK government to deliver fair and fast compensation for 1950s-born women impacted by changes to the state pension age. COST-OF-LIVING PAYMENTS WILL ‘BARELY SCRATCH THE SURFACE’, WARNS WEST DUNBARTONSHIRE’S MP

West Dunbartonshire’s MP has warned the UK government further action is required to tackle the worsening cost-of-living crisis, as it’s announced that the first of two payments to help qualifying low-income households will hit people’s bank accounts from 14th July.

Local MP Martin Docherty-Hughes welcomed the Chancellor’s confirmation that a payment of £326 would be made to eligible low-income households by the end of July, with a second payment of £324 set to follow in the autumn. Local MP Martin Docherty-Hughes has welcomed West Dunbartonshire’s award-winning district heating energy centre as a great example of the innovation Scotland is showing in delivering low-carbon renewable energy for homes and business.

The SNP MP for West Dunbartonshire visited Clydebank’s Energy Centre in Queens Quay – which utilises the first large-scale heat pump system of its kind in the UK to generate energy from the River Clyde – to see first-hand the benefits of the district heating system. Martin has raised concerns about the impact of soaring energy bills on vulnerable households in West Dunbartonshire.

West Dunbartonshire’s MP Martin Docherty-Hughes has raised concerns about the impact of soaring gas and electricity bills as figures show households in West Dunbartonshire paying on average £1,555 per year.

According to data from 2021 released by comparethemarket.com, households across Clydebank, Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven were paying 17.9% more than the energy price cap prior to it rising by £693 on 1st April.
