Martin Docherty-Hughes MP is set to run the Scottish Half Marathon to raise funds for local charity Carers of West Dunbartonshire.
The MP for West Dunbartonshire visited the Carers’ Centre based on Dumbarton Road to launch his fundraising campaign ahead of Carers Week 2018 which takes place 11-17 June.
Mr Docherty-Hughes will pull on his running shoes in the hope of raising £1,000 for the local community group which provides support to carers across Clydebank, Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven.
The Scottish Half Marathon takes place on 28 September 2018 with participants covering a distance of 13.1 miles. All money raised by Martin’s run will go towards supporting the work of the Carers of West Dunbartonshire.
Martin Docherty-Hughes MP said:
“The contribution carers make to our communities is priceless and I’m delighted to be running my first ever half-marathon in support of the Carers of West Dunbartonshire.
“Along with my brother and sister, I know first-hand the challenges of being a carer from a young age. Carers go that extra mile every single day, so the prospect of running 13.1 miles feels easy by comparison.
“Carers Week is a great opportunity to show appreciation for the vital work our local carers do across Clydebank, Dumbarton and the Vale of Leven and I’d encourage anyone interested to get involved.
“My fundraising page is now up and running at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/martin-docherty-hughes. Any donations, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated with every penny raised going towards this fantastic charity.”
Joanne McGinley, Carers of West Dunbartonshire, said:
“We are delighted that Martin has chosen our charity to raise money while highlighting the challenges that carers face. Carers Week raises awareness of the contribution that carers make to families and communities. This year’s campaign focuses on supporting carers to stay healthy and connected.
“We wish Martin the best of luck in his run and appreciate his ongoing support.”
